KIDNEY TRANSPLANTS

Kidney tranplantation is a long process that involves finding a donor, testing that donor to deem them a suitable match, and performing the surgery itself. If a patient's kidneys continue to deteriorate and they are in otherwise good health, a kidney transplant may be the best way for the patient to return to a relatively normal way of life. Before deciding if a kidney transplant is the best way to go, it is important for a patient to meet with their doctor to discuss all options. If the decision is made to proceed with the transplant process, it may then be necessary to meet with an entire transplant team, which consists of a group of doctors to meet that patient's needs. This team is often organized by a person called a transplant coordinator, who makes sure that everyone is communicating and that all of the various tests are carried out.
