HERBS AND SUPPLEMENTS

Many herbs can interact with prescription drugs, so it is important to always check with a physician before taking any herbs or supplements. A few examples of what may be harmful in CKD patients are vitamin D, rhubarb, aloe, alfalfa, capsicum, licorice, dandelion, nettle and blue cohosh. Transplant patients are particularly at risk, as any interaction between herbs and medications could potentially put them at risk for rejection or losing the kidney.
